Ideal Home Show 2017
In May 2017, I assisted Interior Designer Loraine Chassels in creating two room sets and one free-standing exhibition stand for the Ideal Home Show, Scotland. The theme for the room sets was ‘Seasons’. The seasons chosen for us were Summer and Winter.
In the lead-up to the show, I helped in creating the posters and leaflets for the room sets, highlighting the items on sale and the company name. Given the time restrictions and production schedule, we had to adhere to, everything was completed on time, professionally and to the highest of standards. I assisted in the packing of the items for the Ideal Home and once we arrived at the SECC, the set-up was completed by my myself and the team at XS Interiors.
During the set-up, we ensured that all fabrics and fragile objects were protected until all pieces were in place and ready for the show. Unpacking and building the items gave us time to also clear the space within the room sets to allow for larger, already built items to be placed into the scene, such as beds and sofas.
The two room sets, ‘Summer Breeze’ and ‘Winter Warmer’ attracted a great deal of attention and new clientele during our time at the Ideal Home Show. Both room sets reflected the given seasons beautifully. Over the 3 days, I had various different types of client interaction, contrasting to that within the studio and on a home visit. This entailed meeting the customers on the day, and within a brief time frame, depicting what they were looking for and the possibility of realising or sourcing their wants/needs.
Extra considerations had to be made, such as window treatment, fabric and wallpaper choices. During the set-up, we created a pelmet for the Winter Warmer Room Set with leftover fabric, to set off the room and add a sense of luxury and style.
Overall, I assisted Loraine from concept to creation for the Ideal Home Show. I experienced the constraints of a production schedule, the packing and set-up for multiple exhibition stands and client interaction in a different environment from what I have previously been involved in. This event also gave me an insight in to the importance of soft furnishings and wallpaper selection to impress a wider audience, along with window treatment, whilst learning about new products and they ways in which they can be used within a space.
